Whiplash depicts Andrew’s journey of pursuing his dream in an extreme method.
The sequence focuses on his original aspiration of music, the innate motivation
that drives him throughout the journey despite obstacles.

The title sequence depicts the concept through the metaphor of lots of elements in the movie, such as the earphones, CD, popcorn, and music notes. As the camera moves up, we discover the origin of all these objects-the initial love of music.

The sequence opens with a tight close-up shot of an earphone, then reveals shattered pieces of a CD and music notes. The fragments are scattered across the frame. This visually metaphorical the image hints at the movie's imperfect, fragmented ending and the connection to jazz music.
In the final frames, the source of this colorful lighting is revealed - it's the reflection and refraction of light through the myriad CD fragments themselves.
This vibrant display serves as a representation of Andrew's original, passionate love for music that once burned so brightly before becoming fragmented and scattered.

In the initial phase, I only using some pieces of CD to create the sequence. This version lose lots of connection with the movie itself.
PROCESS
I caught the colorful lighting reflection from the CD, built the scene in Cinema, and composite in Photoshop+After Effects.
